Poores of Acton Poores of Acton is an independent merchant established in 1820, and the oldest builders’ merchant in West London. Supplying a wide range of products of builders and decorating materials, ironmongery and electrical products they also have a Calor Gas Centre and a garden centre.
Poores of Acton are now working in partnership with Shepherds Busing Housing Group (SHBG), with 5,000 homes in West London. Poores of Acton signed up with the PfH and is now an approved PfH supplier and by working closely with Domus, the maintenance arm of the housing association, all parties are committed to improving productivity.
Many factors contribute to Poores successful trading relationship, including the extensive purchase pattern analysis conducted. This has meant that Poores now guarantee to carry 95% of all products required in stock, clearly a key benefit to SBHG. Regular meetings and extensive communications between all parties had lead to new product sourcing, and Poores now carry special products and an extended product range, removing the need for SBHG to take their business elsewhere. With the improved service levels and the ‘full product package’ Poores offer, Domus is now prioritising the use of Poores in its supply chain. This partnership between SBHG, Domus and Poores is based on long term commitment with agreed service standards and product supply.
Poores, who have now been involved with the PfH for two years, are very pleased with the PfH membership as it has enabled them to expand their business with social housing clients around London and given them access to business they might have been precluded from if they were not part of the PfH framework. A major benefit to Poores is being paid on time and in full, and working with PfH members, Poores know exactly when they will get paid, which assist them to plan and run the business with some certainty.
Poores are now looking to ‘roll-out’ this successful partnership to other associations in their area.
