Stamco invest in fourth branch
The investement in a 1.5 acre site in Shoreham is part of Stamco Building supplies' long term expansion plans, accordingly to Alan Boyd, commercial manager for the Sussex timber and builders merchants.
The company's existing branches are in Hastings - also head office, Eastbourne and Hove. But, says Boyd: "The Hove branch is as big as we can get it and we were really looking to relocate, but then we found this site and decided that a better option would be to open a fourth branch, especially as this site is near to other builders merchants to bring the customers in."
The new branch is on the main A259 Brighton Road in Shoreham harbour, opposite a Travis Perkins branch and next to City PLumbing Supplies. Around one third of the space at Shoreham is warehousing and offices, the rest yard, and the branch covers the company's full range of timber and building materials. The staff for the Shoreham branch come via a mixture of internal promotions and outside recruitment.
"We have people there with many years' experience in the business," Boyd says.
Deliveries for the Hove and Shoreham customer base are now operated out of the Shoreham branch, leaving the Hove branch free to concentrate on collect business.
The company's next move will be the redevelopment of the Hove branch and expansion into Kent. |
