NBG majors on merchant strengths The NBG builders merchants buying group is the best placed to get
members through the tough times ahead, according to executive chairman
Allan Durning.
Durning was talking at the organisation's annual Christmas Conference ,
which saw two days of merchant and supplier meetings in Newcastle
finished off by a gala black tie dinner and the presentation of the
2008 NBG Supplier awards.
"We believe NBG LLP is now being recognised as the leading
organisation for independent builders merchants," Durning said. "NBG
branches reach throughout the UK and there are now over 250 of them,
more than Build Center and Buildbase combined."
Among the highlights during the past year were the launch of two
new NBG brands - Anuf and Splash Down ¬- and the trialling of trading
through the NBG trading hub.
"There is an uncertain future and the industry is facing hard
times," he continued. "Throughout 2008 NBG LLP has been developing
partnerships and is now in a strong position to move forward into 2009.
This programme will be delivered through building strong relationships
with suppliers. "
Steve Robinson, managing director of JT Dove, presented the NBG
2008 Supplier awards to: Hunter Plastics and Marley Extrusions
(marketing initiative); Lafarge Cement (environmental); Bostik
(lightside); Severn Timber (timber); Aggregate Industries (heavyside);
Hanson group (supplier of the year).
There were also two special awards handed out: to David Woolford of
Lafarge Plasterboard (Industry Lifetime Achievement Award) and to Chris
Pateman, managing director of the Builders Merchants Federation (100
year special award).
