Brian Gow Roofing Supplies was established in 1996 by Brian Gow himself. Brian started out as a young salesman for Vulcanite in Belfast (his home town) selling flat roofing felt and bitumen. Brian crossed the pond in 1977 with his wife Anne, and eventually started working for a roofing supplies company in Tunbridge wells, and various other sites across Kent and Sussex.

After starting a family, Brian decided it was time to give it a go himself. As his name had become well known within the roofing industry, as well as his jokes (some good, some not so good) it was decided the only name for the company should be “Brian Gow Roofing Supplies”. Brian took with him two trusted employees, Keith Page and Ian Wakeford (who still work for the company today) and the three of them started Brian Gow Roofing Supplies, out of a small shop in Crowborough, with an even smaller yard and one van…and so the adventure started.

Very quickly more space was required, so Brian found a redundant chicken shed on a farm in Forest Row, which allowed much more room for storing second hand materials, which was their main focus initially. Within three years the business was doing well, and Brian and Keith wanted to expand into the Haywards Heath area. An ideal location was found in Scaynes Hill with a large purpose built warehouse, office and yard area. This depot was to serve the company well, as it’s size allows it to be the main stock holding depot, where 90% of the deliveries come from.
